Urgent Mental Health Issues in Teens
Mental health is an integral part of human well-being, but since 1990 the global prevalence of mental disorders has not fallen below 10%, contributing to 14% of age-standardized years lived with disability, according to the Global Burden of Disease Study. Mental disorders usually appear during adolescence and many persist into adulthood. Therefore, the promotion of mental health among young people must be considered a priority, and the environmental determinants – arising from specific cultural and geographical contexts and better understood by inhabitants – must be identified.
